Members of the Youngstown State University's Chapter of the Ohio Education Association (YSU-OEA) has initiated the process for a State Referendum (also known as a citizens' veto) against SB 1. The initial petition (that required 1,000+ signatures from registered Ohio voters) was submitted to the Ohio Attorney General on Monday, April 21st and on May 5th, the Ohio Attorney General accepted the initial petition! Now begins the task of collecting approximately 250,000 valid signatures from across the state on the actual referendum petition (there are several requirements; you can read more here). If the actual referendum petition is successful, the law would be put to the voters on November 4, 2025.
